Representing Russia’s Siberian region, The New Names make their US debut with a program of contemporary and classical works by Russian, European, and American composers as well as traditional Russian folk songs. Among its numerous honors, the award-winning children’s choir has been selected to perform at the 2014 Olympic games. Arts Brookfield celebrates Make Music New York 2013 with an afternoon honoring the jazz saxophone! New York City – Mecca for the saxophone – is where Sonny Rollins, Joe Henderson, Charlie Parker, Albert Ayler, Jimmy Heath, and others came as unknowns and made their own unique contributions to the greatness of jazz, and in the process became legendary giants of the idiom. Some of the hippest voices of today’s jazz shine over three 15-minute solo sets at six different locations. Forty years after his untimely death, the short career of American singer-songwriter, guitarist, and pianist Gram Parsons has been described as enormously influential, and credited with founding both country-rock and alt-country. In this series, musicians will be showcasing their own original material – much of it inspired by the legend himself – along with some of their own favorites from the Gram Parsons catalog.

In 2012 Brookfield Properties undertook the renovation of the Grace Building located on the corner of Sixth Avenue and 42nd Street. After a selection process, which included numerous prominent artists, Caio Fonseca (American- born 1959) was chosen to create two murals for the newly renovated lobby. In his Manhattan studio, Fonseca painted two original murals based on his positive/negative works. With one measuring 17 feet and the other 12 feet, they are two of the largest examples of this style.
