Recently, water has had played a prominent role in the political and cultural dialog of New York City. Though the city has flooded many times over the centuries, the recent tumult of Hurricane Sandy has elicited hard questions about its very nature. What will the long-term effects of environmental change mean for the city and its infrastructure? What will New York City’s relationship to water become? The artists in Fluid: Construct – David Baskin, Jason Head, Wyatt Nash, and Emily Sartor –will explore the interconnections of NYC’s relationship with water. Their work reveals the complex nature of fundamental relationships, utilizing color and scale to make objects that keenly observe and comment on our ever-changing urban landscape.
